Long Bio (250 words)

Bari Gordon Vapnek, known as Brave Butterfly Bari, is a nationally recognized hypoparathyroidism advocate, columnist, and patient advocate dedicated to transforming personal adversity into meaningful advocacy. Diagnosed with hypoparathyroidism in 1998, Bari's life changed dramatically in 2016 when she experienced a life-altering calcium crash that felt like a stroke. This pivotal moment ignited her commitment to advocacy and education.

Working with Dr. Mannstadt (2016-2019), Bari gained critical medical insights. In 2019, Dr. Karph's words—"There is hope, don't give up"—became a turning point. That same year, she met Dr. Rubin and became the first patient enrolled in the groundbreaking TransCon PTH clinical trial. Their partnership evolved into a powerful collaboration, hosting webinars and advancing patient education. The FDA approval of Yorvipath (Transcon PTH) in 2024 represents a historic breakthrough for millions living with hypoparathyroidism.

As a columnist for Hypoparathyroidism News, Bari shares her journey through powerful storytelling. She is a proud mother to Drew (26), a chiropractor at Lake Point Wellness, and Harrison (24), a sports director at KALB. Through writing, speaking, and community building, Bari empowers others to embrace their journey with courage, proving that our struggles can become our greatest strengths.
